What I have learned about morning sickness.

As I write this I am pregnant with my third child. And can I just say "I HATE MORNING SICKNESS." So here is my rant. I will include some tips I have found helpful too... though they are few and far between.

  1. Morning sickness does not just occur in the morning. Whoever came up with the stupid name is a blatant liar!!! "Morning" sickness can strike at anytime of day or in the case of my first pregnancy it can last all day everyday for months. In my case I had hyperemesis gravidarum.

  2. Young children; at least my young children, have no sympathy for morning sickness. They still want to be fed, changed, and played with despite the fact that mommy can barely drag herself out of bed.

  3. Lemons are a God-send. Seriously, sucking on lemons is the only thing that seems to curb my nausea. There is a problem however, during my second pregnancy I would eat at least 3 lemons a day. Not long after this the acid from the lemons began to tear away at my lips. It was very painful and did not go well with nausea and vomiting.

  4. Morning sickness is worse when I wait too long to eat... but then again its worse after I eat. Its really a no-win situation. Eatin 6 small meals instead of 3 large ones helps.. then you can prevent yourself from getting hungry and not overstuff yourself in one sitting.

  5. Who ever suggests saltine crackers... no... just no... I hate it when people say "Have you tried munching on some crackers when you get up in the morning and slowly getting out of bed?" I get it really they are just trying to be helpful... and I appreciate it.. kind of. But morning sickness... at least the kind I experience is WAY more complex than a couple of crackers.

  6. There are tons of products you can buy online that claim to alleviate morning sickness, but they have all been a waste of money for me.

  7. You will survive.. most likely. No.. you will.

  8. Things I have tried that did not work for me but may work for others: Motion Sickness bands, Preggie Pops, Ginger, Peppermint, Saltine Crackers, Chewing Ice cubes .. Let me know if you have more cures for morning sickness. Believe me I would love to hear them!

  9. Try to get sleep when you can. Put your husband to the dishes duty if you have to!

  10. One more thing I have learned: It is absolutely 100% worth it in the end. Have a Happy and Healthy 9 months!!!
